SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR CHILDREN
A special representative for a child is appointed when there is reason to believe that an offence has been committed against a person under the age of 18 or when the suspect is the child’s legal guardian, or when it can be assumed that the legal guardian will not exercise the rights of the child due to their relationship with the suspect.
The special representative assumes the responsibility of the guardians in the aspects related to the preliminary investigation and trial and may, for example, authorize the police to question the child in an appropriate manner. The special representative also assists the child in claiming damages at court hearings.
The district court appoints a special representative who by consideration of their knowledge, experience and personal qualities, is particularly suitable for the task.
