LVU (CARE OF YOUNG PERSONS ACT)

LVU is a Swedish abbreviation of the Act with Special Provisions on the Care of Young Persons. This is also known as the preventive detention of children. The law regulates when children should be taken into care. The requirement is that the child’s health or development is at significant risk of harm due to abuse or neglect. Compulsory care under LVU may also be necessary if the young person is abusing alcohol or drugs or has become involved in crime or other serious social maladjustments.
