MATRIMONIAL PROPERTY DIVISION
During a marriage, spouses may want to divide their assets and clarify which spouse owns what. A matrimonial property division involves the parties drawing up a list of the assets and debts to be included in the settlement and then dividing the property between them.
However, a matrimonial settlement does not mean that the property will not be included in a future settlement if the spouses divorce. If the spouses want the property to become individual property, they need to draw up a prenuptial agreement to regulate this.
A notice must be made to the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) prior to any division of property during the marriage.
